Adjustment Types
The Advanced Inventory module uses adjustment types to populate drop-down menus on the Inventory Transactions Item Adjustment page.
The Adjustment Type inventory administration page is only available if Advanced Inventory is enabled.
The following types of adjustments can be defined:
-
Quantity Adjustment – A quantity adjustment modifies the physical count of items in the warehouse. A quantity adjustment may need to be made if parts are added or removed outside the normal receiving processes, damaged parts are found, or items are returned.
-
Price Adjustment – A price adjustment modifies the cost of items in the warehouse. A price adjustment may need to be made if and error was made when entering the part cost or if parts increase/decrease in value after being held over time.
To open the Adjustment Type page:
-
Open the Administration Menu page.
-
Under the INVENTORY ADMIN heading, click Adjustment Type.
The Admin – Adjustment Type page opens. Defined adjustment types are displayed at the top of the page. Quantity adjustment types are displayed by default. Adjustment types are listed in order of Tab Order first, then alphabetically by name.
Creating an adjustment type allows you to define values that are included in the Adjustment Type drop-down menu when entering an adjustment to the inventory. To create an adjustment type:
-
In the Adjustment Type field, select the type of adjustment you want to create.
-
Click the Create New link.
The Adjustment Type dialog box opens, allowing you to define the new adjustment type.
-
In the Adjustment Type field, enter the name of the adjustment type.
-
In the Active field, select Yes to make this adjustment type active.
Inactive values remain in the system, but are not displayed to users.
-
Select the Initial check box to indicate that this is an initial adjustment type.
Initial adjustment types refer to adjustments that are made because no value was initially entered for the quantity or price.
-
In the Description field, enter a description of the adjustment type.
This field can be used to provide more information about the adjustment type. This value can be up to 1000 characters long. As you type, the character count updates indicating the number of additional characters that can be entered.
-
In the Reduce Inventory field, select Yes to cause this type of adjustment to subtract the quantity entered by the user from the on-hand inventory, thereby reducing the quantity.
For example, if a user selects this type of adjustment, and enters a value of 10, 10 items will be subtracted from the current on-hand quantity.
If you set this value to Yes, it is important to properly name the adjustment type so that users will know that items will be subtracted, for example Return or Reduction.
-
In the Tab Order field, enter a numeric value.
The Tab Order indicates the position, in menus, where this value will be listed. Lower numbered values are displayed toward the top of the list. Values will the same tab order will be sorted alphabetically.
-
Click OK.
The adjustment type is added to the list. The name of the user who added the adjustment type and the date and time it was added are displayed.
Adjustment types can be modified. For example, if you want to change an adjustment type's position in drop-down menus, modify the tab order. To edit a adjustment type:
-
Click the Edit link to the right of the adjustment type you want to edit.

- Tab Order – the position in which the adjustment type will be displayed in drop-down menus
-

The modified adjustment type parameters, including the name of the user who edited them and the date and time when they were edited, are displayed.
